What was in my You Beauty Advent Calendar

My boyfriend surprised me this year by treating me to the You Beauty advent calendar! It was so fun opening a door a day to reveal a miniature skincare product or make-up item - so much more exciting than chocolate or those boring picture ones! I thought I'd give a sneaky peek as to what was inside mine :)

So far I've been loving the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil which I've been using as a pre-cleanse each evening to take off my make-up, and the dr.organic Eye Rescue Rollerball which I've been reaching for as my wake up call as it is so cold and refreshing when used around the eye area.
I'm really looking forward to trying the Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask which looks so luxurious, but I'm saving it for a special occasion as the tube is tiny! Saying that, the full size 60ml tube costs £93 on the Space NK website so this sample works out at around £15!
I was really happy to see the Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation and Stila Lip Glaze in there as I've had my eye on them for a while.
I already own the Dr.Lipp Balm and it's been a lifesaver in the winter months so it's good to have a back up.
I think some of the bits are a bit . . . blah . . . the body spray and tweezers are nothing special although I will still make use of them, and the Bio Effect EGF Serum sample is so small it's a bit pointless really. Also I'm not one to get too excited about bath and shower products but I'm sure some people are and I suppose the whole point of this kind of thing is to try products you wouldn't normally, so who knows . . . I may find a hidden luxury!
I love the idea of these types of calendars, they're so cute and a nice change from the traditional calendars, I'm already hoping for either the Benefit or Selfridge's one for next year, haha :)

If you like the look of the products in this calendar it is available to buy here at 50% off! Ok so you won't be able to use it to count down to Christmas but you still get to try some great products and great brands for an absolute steal!

Did any of you get a beauty style advent calendar this Christmas?

Asos Sale Bargains and Life Update

t-shirt dress and shoes: asos (sale! sale! sale!)
belt: topshop (old)
earrings: regal rose (sale! sold out - similar here)

I haven't managed to blog since October unfortunately . . . Oopsy! :( Sometimes life just takes over though eh and I feel like I've had bigger fish to fry with reality rather than keeping up with what's going on online, haaa! :)
I have just been so busy with other things that it isn't just my own blog I've abandoned - I have taken a complete break from the whole internet world - I've gone completely blog cold turkey *christmas pun* and haven't had chance to read any of my faves for about 2 months, I haven't been having my usual daily dose of the Topshop 'new in' section and my twitter account has been looking pretty bare of late too! :(
However I have enjoyed blogging so much this year and I have missed having my own little space on the internet to escape to these past couple of months, so I really hope I can get back into the swing of things now the new year is approaching . . . especially as I have so many exciting things to blog about in 2014!

I don't normally talk too much about myself on my blog, preferring to keep it more about fashion and beauty - as I'm always wary about getting too personal/giving too much away online! Though I thought it would be nice to do a bit of a life update kinda thing and say what I've been up to the past few months . . .

Firstly, I've started training as a Make-up Artist! In September I enrolled at the Media Make-up School at Media City in Manchester where I study part-time (1 day a week) on the Media Hair and Make-up course. It is something I've wanted to do for so long and so far I have learnt how to do all the beauty side of make-up where I've had practice doing everything from day and evening looks to bridal make-up, airbrushing and avant garde etc . . . then in the new year we will be looking at the special effects side of make-up and learning prosthetics which I'm really looking forward to! When the Summer approaches I will also be learning hair styling and cutting. EEK!!

I still work at a hotel full time which is 5 days a week alongside my course and as you can imagine it has been quite tricky getting the balance right between everything and only leaves me with 1 day a week free to do any extras, hence why the blog has been suffering :( *sorry blog!* especially as I have been trying to gain make up artist experience aswell,  to complement what I'm learning on my course!

Secondly, I have set a date for my wedding! Long-term (ish!) readers of my blog will know I got engaged in April  . . . and in October me and my fiancé booked our wedding for March 2014! As it turns out planning a wedding in under 6 months is actually quite a challenge, haaa! :/ So colour schemes, cakes and background music is about all I've been researching recently, haha :) Slightly stressful, lol . . . but I CAN'T WAIT for the big day!

So that's where I've been! Don't even get me started on Christmas - I just couldn't fit it in this year! I worked Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day so the whole thing was a bit of a wipeout for me . . . boo! :(
I'm so thankful now though that I have 3 days off to relax, recharge, recuperate . . . and ultimately get back on track with everything including the blog! I also plan to catch up with a load of YOUR blogs, so send me any links in the comments . . I want to know your best beauty products of 2013 and what amazing bargains you've picked up in the sales! Most of all I want a nosey at your Christmas presents! ;)

My Everyday Make Up Routine - First Ever YouTube Video!

- babylips not used in video but an everyday make-up essential!

Something a bit different today! I am so excited that today I uploaded my first ever YouTube video! :) :) :)
I have been watching fashion and beauty YouTube videos on and off for a couple of years now - I'll go a couple of months without even thinking about them but then the obsession will take over me once again and I will stay up all night watching them. haha. I'm sure anybody else that watches YouTube videos will be able to relate to that. They are addictive. The first ones I started watching and still love to to this day are ghostpartieslilypebbles and llymlrs. Whether it's hearing about someone's latest can't-live-without products, checking out home made lookbooks or make-up tutorials, you name it, I'm watching it.
I've always thought I may make my own at some point but it is quite nerve-wrecking putting yourself in front of a camera, especially without make-up. I wasn't even sure whether I would post this video or not when I finished it but thinking of it as a kind of tester made it a lot less daunting and I've ended up being pretty pleased with the finished result, with it being my first try n'all!
I chose to film 'my everyday make-up routine' which I use practically everyday for work and it's a lovely natural pretty make-up look which only requires a few products and is so simple to copy! It's only a short video (about 3 minutes) so I hope you check it out and let me know what you think! Excuse the silly thumbnail but here it is!  . . . . . .
Thumbs up if you like it! :)

Make-up Haul

I realised I've built up quite a few new make-up bits over the past month so I thought I would share my latest purchases and do a bit of a haul post as I can't even remember the last time I did one. Most of these are the result of being sneaked into the trolley when doing the food shopping with my boyfriend. oopsy ;)

I don't know why I felt I needed 3 Bourjois black eyeliners but I was in such a rush at the time and needed one for a night out so I just picked up them all! One's a classic pencil, one's a felt tip style and one's a really chunky twist up kohl which looks perfect for a really smudgy, smoky eye so I'm sure I'll get my use out of them.
I'm a huge lover of tinted lip balm for everyday wear as I find it so uncomfortable wearing a full on lipstick daily, especially whilst I'm working. I love how a tinted balm adds some colour so I still look done up but I don't need to worry about it smudging or looking too over the top. I knew I'd love the Bourjois Colour Boosts as I've tried some of these chunky lip balm pens from other brands so I just went for it and got 'peach on the beach' and 'fuchsia libre'. I also got the Baby Lips in 'pink punch' which has a more subtle colour pay off which I'm sure you all know as I'm probably the last blogger ever to buy this. Haaaa, I'm so behind with the times.
This year I've ventured into wearing eyeshadow so I've added the much hyped about Naked 2 palette to my collection and this Max Factor double ended shadow stick which looked like a handy little gadget for eyes on the go. I got the one in 'bronze haze' as I'm loving these earthy tones for Autumn.
One product I'm particularly excited about is the brow zings which I've considered getting on and off for so long. I've only had chance to use it once so far and I found it quite fiddly but once I've had a bit more time to experiment I will definitely be letting you all know how I get on with it.

Have you tried any of these products?

I will be reviewing these products on here once I've had a bit of a play and made my mind up whether they're yay or nay, buy or bin . . . haha :)
I'm going to make an effort to do more reviews - I think I've actually only done one since I started my blog -  but I own so many beauty products and I love make-up and skincare so I may aswell share my opinion with the world . . . or the odd few people!

Ways to Wear . . . a Tartan Skirt

Tartan skirt: glamorous at asos

British Girl In New York
t-shirt: present
boots and bag: topshop (bag-old)
belt: river island (old)
headband: claires (old)
necklace: ebay

I'm With The Band
jumper: minkpink
hat and boots: topshop (old)
necklace and rings: dixi

All Wrapped Up For Winter
coat: river island (old)
hat: topshop (last year)
creepers: underground

Tartan has to be the trend to rival all trends for A/W 13.  I have a couple of tartan shirts but I thought I would invest in a classic red tartan skirt. I have an amazing mustard yellow kilt style tartan skirt that I got from a vintage shop in Manchester years ago which I love but it's teeny tiny, I can't believe I actually used to fit into it!
I spotted this one from Glamorous and I love the style and shape of it. The material is quite thin - I would prefer a woolen one but for the price I can't complain. It fits perfectly and I love it! It's such a versatile piece and works whether you'd rather style it punky or preppy. Who can forget the 'Clueless' style top-to-toe tartan look?! I like the final outfit that I've styled the most, I just love the colour palette, mixing reds and burgundy shades - and it is mega cosy too! :)

Do you own anything tartan? And how will you be styling it over the next few months?

Autumn/Winter Fashion Trends at Reiss

There are so many great trends this season I'm almost happy Summer has come to an end. Here are a few of my favourite trends that are so versatile nobody has an excuse for not being 'in fashion'. haaa.
I have picked out some pieces from the new A/W collection from Reiss at John Lewis that I'd wear to get bang up to date for the new season. *I can dream . . .* Be prepared for some gorgeous wearable clothes and lots of to-die-for accessories!

Trend 1: Navy - It's nice to have a change from black every once in a while, and navy is the ideal alternative - like a baby step into the world of colour! I always think navy just looks so darn sophisticated! The jumpsuit is a winner for me but for any Kate Middleton wannabes the dress is perfect.

In the Navy

Trend 2: Metal Belts - I am in love with the entire Burberry Prorsum collection! Out of my price range . . . yes - but anyone can update their look Burberry style with an amazing metal banded belt like ones the models were sporting. I need the gold zip style one from Reiss quick sharp! It's such a statement piece, it'd look fab thrown on with a basic shift dress to jazz it up a bit or whipped round a trench coat a la Burberry.
Animal Print

Trend 3: Dusky Pink - How cute is the ballerina style dress?! It looks like like something Carrie Bradshaw would wear. I'm still Sex and the City's biggest fan and anything 'Carrie' is a big thumbs up! Also isn't the silk top a dead ringer for the one on the Richard Nicoll catwalk?! I love the candyfloss shade although I have to say I will be teaming this sugary sweet trend with leather for a bit of attitude!

Which trends will you be channelling this Autumn/Winter?
Which are your favourite picks from the Reiss collection?

Black Maxi Skirt and Fluffy Jumper

skirt and rings: asos
jumper: minkpink
hat, sunglasses and boots: topshop
necklace: regal rose

I feel like some kind of witch in this outfit. Gotta love head to toe black though for a gothic 'Addams Family' kind of vibe! I don't normally go for anything maxi length for fear of looking too short or drowning in fabric but this skirt was only £18 from Asos which was quite reasonable so I thought I'd give it a go. It's made from a really soft jersey fabric and is soooo comfy. Flashes a bit of leg too which never hurt anyone. Also how cute is this fluffy jumper?! It's mega sparkly in real life too. Winner! I think this is the perfect 'adjusting to the colder seasons' outfit - still just managing to get away without wearing a coat! Which reminds me I need a winter coat. Love those oversized ones that are all the rage right now. I've seen a few cool ones but why does one item have to cost so much! *sigh*

Rainbow Socks and Unicorn Clutch Bag

t-shirt: my boyf's
dungarees: topshop (now on sale!)
jelly shoes: juju
socks: harrogate knit and stitch show (old!)
sunglasses: dixi (sold out)

I'm so in love with my unicorn clutch bag! I saw it over on Helenas blog (she's styling it amazingly f.y.i) and just knew I had to have it! I know it's verging on tacky but it's just so whimsical and fun and it's not like it broke the bank! The zip is a little tail too, how cute?! I've been on a constant look out for any holographic fashion items ever since the mini-trend first arose but I've not been able to find too much on the high street. Some that I have found have been so expensive too which is quite risky with this kind of trend as it's probably going to look ridiculous next season if you know what I mean? 'Holographic' is not exactly a staple or a must-have such as leather would be or monochrome!
This will probably be my last outfit post this year where I'm  bare legged/wearing jelly shoes/not wearing a coat! I wore this last Thursday when we had a couple of randomly sunny days but since then it's taken a turn for cold, dull Autumn whether. Boo! I've always preferred dressing for Summer - probably because it's easier just to think about wearing one item of clothing rather than what layers go with what! Huge coats over my outfits always make me feel really frumpy too, plus I always wear skirts and dresses which aren't always as easy to style when it's chilly as you have to match them to some woolly tights etc . . . I don't think I've ever worn trousers or jeans on this blog. I never wear them! I don't think I've ever worn a pair of actual trousers just because I've always thought they'd make my legs look extra short. Some people pull them off so well but they're just not for me. I used to be obsessed with skinny jeans when Kate Moss first wore them, and when the world went crazy for them so did I! I must have bought over 10 pairs . . . black, blue, light grey, dark grey, bluey-grey, white, yellow (yes yellow!) That was ages ago though and I haven't worn any of them for years. Looking back they weren't actually that comfy!
One thing that would definitely end my trousers/jeans drought would be a pair of Mom Jeans! I love the style of them and I can think of loads of different ways I could style them although I'm not even sure they'd suit me?!  I desperately want a pair so hopefully I can get some soon and sport them over A/W!

Oh darn, I just remembered I do own a pair of disco pants and I have worn them this year - but do these count as trousers? I don't know, they're a weird one, more leggings I'd say . . .
